BIPPA supports the ‘PGRs against low pay’ open letter

The British and Irish Postgraduate Philosophy Association would like to support a recent open letter addressed to UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) that expresses concern over the impact of the cost of living crisis on postgraduate research students in the UK and calls on UKRI to raise the doctoral / postgraduate research funding to mitigate this impact. As an association, we are deeply worried about the effects that the rampant inflation has and will continue to have on the already precarious economic conditions of postgraduate students in the UK—and, most notably, on Philosophy postgraduate students. The growing difficulties affect the physical and mental health of students, and threatens the very future of the UK university system. Therefore, we join our fellow postgraduate students in calling on UKRI to increase the minimum stipend for the 22/23 academic year in accordance with the latest inflation rates.
